Teaching can be a daunting task. A mentor in school may assume different roles to ensure that the students will be able to learn their lessons well and eventually acquire knowledge, wisdom and necessary skills that are essential later in life.
A mentor has a tremendous duties and responsibilities. They must able to assess their students to the best of their abilities.
The grades of the students given by their instructors reflect the overall performance, brilliance inside the classroom if there is any and the learning curb of the students.
There are scores of instructors that seem too generous in giving hefty grades on most of their students. If the range of the grades between the highest and lowest is small and majority of the students get scores of 85 and above (in the Philippines the passing grade is 75 and above). This is an indication of poor assessment on the part of a mentor although the students will likely be very happy with this.
Here are some reasons why instructors give undeserving high grades on their students:
- The mentor’s inappropriate generosity can be a sort of a bribe. It is most likely that with their high grades the students will no longer complain about the shortcomings and inadequacies of their mentor.
- High grades on most students in a class indicate that the mentor is not doing his job well in correcting the papers of the students (like quizzes, seat work, assignments, examinations, research papers and/or other requirements). A high on every student will compensate for the inability of the mentor to check and evaluate the student’s performance.
Bloated grades imply poor evaluation on the part of the instructor.
That's all folks thank you for dropping by, hope you'll comeback soon.
